KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — More than 100 pregnant teens have received guidance and education at the Rumah Puteri Arafiah (RPA) in Shah Alam since it was established in 2011.

Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad said that currently, the shelter takes care of 34 girls aged between 15 to 20 years old with an emphasis on human and spiritual development elements.

"These girls were involved in social problems. They came here after getting pregnant and we looked after them for two years.

"If their family does not want to look after the baby, we will hand over the baby to the adoptive parents, in accordance with the established procedures and process," she said.

She said this when officiating the 18th-anniversary celebration of the Nurul Iman Malaysia Welfare Association for Children of HIV/AIDS Patients (Pernim) here yesterday.

RPA is a care and shelter centre for teenage girls under the age of 21, which was established by Pekawanis.

It received sponsorship from Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd (PNSB) and Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais).
