SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 — The First Selangor Plan (RS-1) that was tabled last month has outlined several approaches to develop environmental sustainability in Selangor.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the strategic development plan will focus on environmental issues, the climate change, as well as address the weaknesses in the laws and enforcement against environmental criminals.
“This approach is to ensure that the balance in the state development can be achieved in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” he said on Facebook today.
Environmental sustainability, which is one of the four strategic themes in RS-1, aims to strengthen the existing state's programmes as well as new initiatives and the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG).
It also focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, integrated waste management systems as well as increasing the sustainability of biodiversity and natural resources.
On August 2, the Selangor State Assembly approved the RS-1 motion which has a total cost of RM212.44 billion with unanimous support from the representatives.
RS-1’s development has four strategic themes, namely strengthening the economy, ensuring social inclusivity and the people’s wellbeing, driving environmental sustainability, and providing good and effective governance.
The plan takes into account the implementation aspects of the comprehensive policies, projects and initiatives between the state and the Federal governments without setting aside the five-year planning under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
