SHAH ALAM, July 29 — The construction of the Langat 2 water treatment plant (WTP) and its distribution system that was commissioned by the Federal government through Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) is experiencing delays.

Selangor state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim said that based on PAAP's latest updates, the work progress of the project as of May 2022 is at 90.32 per cent compared to its original target of 92.58 per cent.

“Actually the Langat 2 WTP which is able to produce 1,130 million litres per day (MLD) of treated water has been completed and activated in December 2019.

“But the distribution system that covers the western and southern corridors is still under construction and will only be completed by the end of 2023,” he said at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

He said this to a question from Subang Jaya state assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze on steps taken to expedite the full operation of Langat 2 WTP.

Izham said to ensure treated water from the Langat 2 WTP can be supplied to consumers, PAAP has linked the Langat 2 WTP new balancing pond to the Langat 1 WTP existing balancing pond.

“Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has also carried out two more pipe connection works in the downstream section to expand the distribution system to more areas.

"Currently, Air Selangor has been able to distribute treated water produced by Langat 2 WTP using the existing distribution system by up to 400 million litres per day," he said.
