SHAH ALAM, July 19 — The state government spent over RM400,000 for the welfare of the Orang Asli community in Selangor in 2021, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said this encompasses living well-being, education and family assistance.

"The funds were channelled to organise gotong-royong programmes, upgrade basic facilities, as well as other small projects.

"Education programmes were also implemented in several villages, in collaboration with the Malaysian Orang Asli Development Association," Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

He added that during the Movement Control Order period, assistance in the form of food baskets was also provided to the heads of families.

In addition, special provisions were also provided for the implementation of land survey and gazetting works.

"To date, a total of 29 Selangor Orang Asli villages involving an area of 1,672.67 hectares have been gazetted.

"The State Government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of the Orang Asli community, as well as raising their value and dignity. Planning and efforts will be redoubled in accordance with the state leadership's inclusive approach," Amirudin said.
