MBI manages 34 pct of programmes under First Selangor Plan

SHAH ALAM, July 8 — Almost 34 per cent of the programmes planned in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) fall under the responsibility of the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI and its group of subsidiaries.

Its chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek said the percentage showed the importance of government-linked companies (GLCs) in plans to drive economic growth.

"Implementation in any economic plan requires cooperation, namely GLCs, to play a role for the government and industry.

“For a start, all GLCs need to re-evaluate the strength of their businesses. They need to know their management modules, positioning and business potential in order to help strengthen the government's economy,” she said as a panellist during the economic forum session at the First Selangor Plan Pre-Launch Symposium at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre, here yesterday.

Norita also advised all GLCs to be prepared to venture into unexplored areas of business such as hydrogen drones, flying cars and the green economy.

“For this purpose, GLCs that have the knowledge (and expertise) can use it to make initial investments in the new field.

"Once the project starts, we can invite the private sector to accelerate the process and the economic cycle so that it always moves fast," she said.

The economy is contained in four main themes that guide the RS-1 to succeed in the Selangor agenda to emerge as a smart, livable and prosperous state by 2025.

RS-1 focuses on four main themes covering economy, social, sustainability and governance.

The themes would be a guide in making Selangor a smart, liveable and prosperous state by 2025.

Other panellists during the session were state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim, state executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim and State executive councillor for halal industry Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

The symposium was launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
