KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — The PJ Startup Festival 2022 encourages the public, new small and medium entrepreneurs, college students and other grassroots communities to start their own business by organising a two-day event that features knowledge sharing and success stories.
Kampung Tunku state assemblywoman Lim Yi Wei said the free event is supported by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ), Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) and venture capital partners.
“The event to be held on July 16 and July 17 will showcase 100 exhibition booths from startup companies, government agencies, venture capital partners, private equity firms, banks and technology providers.
“It will take place at the MBPJ Civic Centre here and highlight successful startup companies like Carsome, Hargapedia, Moneymatch and KotakSakti to encourage newcomers. This event is open for all and new entrepreneurs are encouraged to join as there will be a pitching competition where they can win cash prizes worth RM10,000,” she said.
Lim said that among the members in the panel for discussion are senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, co-founder and managing director of BAC Education Group Raja Singham, former Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin, Pitchin chief executive officer Sam Shafie and co-founder of Ficus Capital Abdullah Hidayat Mohamad.
“Topics of discussion include fundraising, future of trade and work, Islamic digital economy, youth entrepreneurship, fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
“We expect about 5,000 visitors to come to the event this year and there are activities for children too,” she said.
