SHAH ALAM, July 1 — A total of 34 eateries in the state have been ordered to close due to filthy conditions, with rat and cockroach infestations found within the premises, and issued with demerit points.

Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the notices were issued during the Ops Premis Bersih on 207 eateries, two days ago.

He said JKNS has issued 263 notices under Section 32B of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, with a compound value of RM167,300 to the owners of the eateries.

“It was done to ensure that the premises are cleared of any situations that can affect the customer’s health or lead to food contamination.

“JKNS urges eateries to maintain an optimum cleanliness level to prevent food poisoning from happening,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Sha’ari also called on the food handlers to always ensure that their premises and products abide by the Food Act 1983.

“Consumers are also advised to be aware and choose only safe and clean eateries.

“They could provide information or complaints on dirty premises to the District Health Office as well as via the public complaint management system and JKNS Facebook page,” he said.
