SHAH ALAM, June 24 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) had provided RM42.152 million to the affected groups for special flood relief as of June.
Its chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the distribution was made to aid the victims of the state's severe flooding in December of last year.
“Special flood assistance covers four categories, namely emergency or natural disaster contribution amounting to RM28.036 million is allocated to 46,727 victims with each receiving RM600.
“Four types of special flood aid are provided, including emergency or natural disaster contributions totalling RM28.036 million, with 46,727 victims receiving RM600 each.
“As for the contribution for post-flood repairs, it involves institutions where 150 mosques and suraus in Selangor that were impacted by the floods have received a total of RM7.5 million from us,” he said at the Zakat Assessment Month launching ceremony, which was officiated by LZS chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail at the Shah Alam Convention Center, here yesterday.
Mohd Sabirin said that LZS had also spent RM4.177 million on 2,417 recipients to help replace household appliances that were damaged by the floods.
“With a budget of RM2.439 million, we also assist in the rehabilitation of 119 damaged asnaf (underprivileged individuals) homes. Depending on the damage, recipients may earn up to RM30,000.
“We hope this contribution can ease the hardships of the flood victims from the incident in December last year,” he added.
