SEPANG, June 14 — The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is introducing its first Driving Experience Centre (DEC) in Southeast Asia.
SIC chief executive officer, Azhan Shafriman Hanif said construction of the DEC as a motoring education hub would begin in the circuit area this month and expected to be completed next year.
“This project is part of SIC’s plan, developed some time ago and it will be another offspring from us. The main circuit will focus on racing and the DEC, on driving skills and safety,” he told reporters at the DEC groundbreaking ceremony at the Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit today.
Azhan Shafriman said the facility would be developed on 28 hectares of land and introduce the concept of learning to drivers in Malaysia so as to be more adept at the operating of vehicles with the provision of facilities and obstacles.
He said the 1.5-kilometre (km) Handling Circuit, Skid Circle, Hydraulic Skid Plate, and Dynamic Staging Area could certainly test the efficiency of drivers and the abilities of their vehicles.
He said among the services offered at the facility would be driving experience performance, safety driving courses and facility rental.
The DEC project is one of the components of SIC's five-year projected Business Strategic Plan, approved by the SIC board of directors in 2014.
The government has allocated a grant under the 12th Malaysia Plan budget.
Also present at the groundbreaking ceremony were Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and his deputy, Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.
