SHAH ALAM, June 11 — The state unemployment level is set to be lowered to 2.6 per cent if all 20,000 jobs available during the Selangor Mega Job Fair 2022 are successfully met, said state executive councillor for young generation development Mohd Khairuddin Othman.
He said as of March, approximately 118,100 individuals involving 3.2 per cent of the state population are reportedly unemployed.
Mohd Khairuddin added this is a worrying figure as there is an increase in the unemployed from last year, which stood at 2.9 per cent or 105,300 individuals.
"For the carnival this time, we target between 5,000 to 6,000 individuals who have successfully found employment with any company. This is an estimated 30 per cent of the jobs available.
"If all jobs have been taken up, the unemployment rate is lowered to 2.6 per cent. I am confident that this can be met, on condition that many come here looking for work," he said after his visit to the carnival.
Up to the end of this year, Mohd Khairuddin said he is also confident the state unemployment rate will remain under five per cent, and will endeavour to prepare a platform to help the public find employment.
"I hope the people especially youths take this opportunity and collectively raise the labour-power in Selangor," he said.
The two-day job fair taking place at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre is offering over 20,000 employment opportunities.
Among the companies joining in the fair include Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor, Daikin Malaysia Sdn Bhd, DHL Express, DRB Hicom Berhad, Giant Malaysia and Malayan Banking Berhad
They also include Media Prima Digital, Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton), Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Shopee Malaysia, Sport Direct MST Sdn Bhd and Toyota Auto Body Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
