AMPANG, June 11 — More and more youths are joining the Selangor Saring free health screening programme, according to the Selangor public health advisor Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli.

He said this is evident when a majority of those attending are in their 20s and 30s.

"Asides from senior citizens, we are also seeing youths and teenagers taking the opportunity to participate in the Selangor Saring programme since its launch in May.

"We hope more youths will attend to screen their health, as what is being offered by the state government is both free and rewarding," Dr Farhan told SelangorKini.

He was speaking at the programme in the Bukit Antarabangsa and Lembah Jaya state constituencies at Dewan Lembah Jaya earlier today.

Dr Farhan added that approximately 77 individuals have attended as of 12pm today to take the opportunity to undergo health checks.

"We expect more will attend in the evening, seeing as how it is a holiday today and they may take the decision to rest earlier in the day," he said.

On the total number of individuals who have joined Selangor Saring, Dr Farhan said nearly 1,000 applications have been received since its launch on May 22.

"We have carried it out in eight state constituencies thus far with another 48 remaining, we expect more individuals will join the programme until September, or possibly exceed the target," he said.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for Selangor Saring, which is expected to benefit up to 39,000 Selangor residents, particularly those with a family history of ailments, obese individuals, and those leading unhealthy lifestyles.

Running from May 22 to September 4, the programme offers physical screenings, blood and urine tests, optical, cervical and breast cancer tests, as well as colorectal and prostate cancer tests.
