SHAH ALAM, June 8 — The SELangkah mobile app gives its users the option to store their medical records on a digital platform that any health institution could access.

Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd (SVSB) chief information officer Dr Mohd Helmi Zakariah said that registering for the Selangor Saring programme through SELangkah, which requires participants to give their medical information, has helped users store their medical records digitally.

“Our medical records belong to us, but most of the time, health facilities keep track of them. For example, if the data is in Seremban and we moved to Penang, it would be a problem because not everyone can remember their medical information..

“With SELangkah, we've set up a way for clinics and hospitals to get access to their patients' information..

“This is like the "pink book" that a pregnant mother has to carry with her everywhere. Because they would have gone to a different clinic to sign up and had the baby somewhere else. So what we did was get those records digitally stored,” said the SELangkah project director in the Bual Bicara talk show titled ‘Dua Tahun SELangkah Lebih Maju (Two Years of a More Advanced SElangkah) broadcasted live on Media Selangor Facebook last night.

The state government gave RM3.4 million to the Selangor Saring programme, which was meant to help about 39,000 people, especially those with a history of illness in their family, who are overweight, or who live an unhealthy lifestyle.

The programme, which started on May 22 and goes until September 4, includes eye exams, blood and urine tests, and screening for cancer.
