Selangor Saring: Majority of participants have high cholesterol levels

SABAK BERNAM, June 6 — A majority of the Selangor Saring participants had high cholesterol levels, says Selangor Public Health Advisory Council committee member Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli.

He said this was based on findings from the blood test results during the state’s free health screening programme that began in Ijok on May 22.

“Other than that, we had also detected kidney problems among the participants from urine test results that indicate the organ is not functioning well. This is followed by the human papillomavirus (HPV) test to detect cervical cancer.

“However, the screening results do not necessarily mean that they have the disease. For example, suppose the HPV test is positive. In that case, it does not mean they have cervical cancer but could be that the person has a high risk of getting the disease,” said Dr Mohammad Farhan when met at the Selangor Saring programme at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Yoke Kuan in Sekinchan, here yesterday.

He said that if the test results came out positive, the participants needed to undergo further diagnostic tests at the state government-sponsored hospitals for confirmation.

“The Selangor Health Community Volunteer would contact the patient to help set their appointment date with a specialist,” he added.
