KLANG, June 5 — A total of 373 chairman and heads of the Traditional Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Selangor were celebrated in an appreciation event organised by the state government, yesterday.

State executive councillor for rural development and traditional village Borhan Aman Shah said the event was held to acknowledge the leaders who have successfully carried out their duties in their respective areas.

He said the heads of the villages have helped curb the spread of Covid-19 in the last two years and during the flooding disaster that happened in December last year.

“This event is significant as they deserve the recognition. They were also part of the frontliners as they helped disseminate information and channel the services provided by the state government.

“Their sacrifices, be it their time, energy and money, towards the villagers are truly appreciated,” he said when met at the appreciation event at Wyndham Acmar Hotel here, yesterday.

Also present were Bukit Melawati state assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli, Ijok state assemblyman Idris Ahmad and State Economic Planning Unit (Sectoral) assistant director Aslynda Mohd Dahlan.

Borhan had also announced the setting up of two new MPKKs in Kuala Selangor, namely at Teluk Piai and Tanjung Keramat, and had also handed over awards to the first batch of women village heads.

He also presented the award to the best traditional village at the district level and the best achievement of a traditional village award.

Meanwhile, Borhan said the MPKK in Selangor were reminded of wise social media usage to channel information and voice out opinions.

He said the rapidly-evolving technologies require them to be wiser in assessing and filtering information.

“Nowadays, the channelling of information in a borderless world using social media has become so dominant compared to conventional methods.

“We could access any information at our fingertips anytime, anywhere. Therefore, I urge the village heads to use the right channel to address their opinion.

“I believe we are always ready to listen to any issues raised, especially if it helps in improving the delivery of the state government’s services,” he said.
