SUBANG JAYA, May 25 — A total of 799 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) was reported in Subang Jaya as of May 14.

Subang Jaya mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar said the infection was also detected in child care centres operated by Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) with 17 cases reported to date.

“The cases occurred in two childcare centres which are Taska USJ 3 and Taska Kuarters Permata Sari.

"Therefore, MBSJ will hold several briefing sessions for staff, caregivers and supervisors on ways to reduce the spread of this disease among children," he said.

He said this during a press conference after the MBSJ Full Board Meeting No. 5/2022 at the MBSJ headquarters here today.

Yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 47,209 HFMD cases were reported in Malaysia as of May 21.

According to him, the cases increased at a worrying rate of 20 fold compared to the same period last year.
