SHAH ALAM, May 18 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) have signed a memorandum of understanding to preserve the Shah Alam Community Forest (SACF) area.

PKNS chief executive officer Datuk Mahmud Abbas said the effort is aimed at conserving the flora and fauna within the forest area owned by the corporation, involving 34.5 hectares in Bandar Sierra Alam.

To realise this, PKNS and UiTM will conduct discussions in the nearest future with implementation expected to take place next year.

"Among the agreements finalised include PKNS bearing the responsibility to set aside part of the SACF as a living lab to advance research projects by lecturers and students.

"We will provide aid for the placement and management of industrial training opportunities for UiTM students to gain real-world industry exposure," he said following the signing ceremony at PKNS' headquarters earlier today.

Mahmud added that UiTM will provide research and consultation related to urban management and facilities, urban socio-economics, tourism and recreation as well as other related fields.

"The university will also help in the sustainable management and development of the SAFC in Bandar Sierra Alam," he said.

The memorandum was signed by Mahmud for PKNS and by vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Datin Suzana Sulaiman for UiTM.
