HULU SELANGOR, May 16 — The decision to close schools or kindergartens in Selangor due to the outbreak of the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) depends on the recommendation made by the state Health Department.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said a special meeting will be held soon to further discuss the matter.
“We will hold a meeting with the state Health Department soon to discuss the latest statistics on HFMD cases.
"The decision on whether to close the school or kindergarten will be decided after the special meeting," he told the media during the Jelajah Kita Semua KEADILAN in Hulu Selangor yesterday.
A total of 6,748 cases and 118 HFMD clusters were recorded in the state as of May 7, with 95 per cent of them involving nursery or kindergarten clusters as well as daycare centres.
State Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman informed that four per cent of the cases were admitted to the hospital for further monitoring while the rest received outpatient treatment.
