Volunteers help ensure SOP compliance at Ramadan bazaars

KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — To ensure compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) among Ramadan bazaar visitors, volunteers are fully committed to carrying out their tasks daily at the designated areas.

Although the country is in the transition phase to endemic, the aspect of SOP compliance needs to be taken care of especially in terms of the wearing of face masks which is still mandatory to curb the spread of Covid-19.

One of the volunteers, Raziq Rusyaidi Ruslani, 23, met at the Ramadan Bazaar Jalan Raja Alang, Kampung Baru, said that among the daily tasks that needed to be done included ensuring people wore face masks and scanning the QR code on the MySejahtera application before entering the bazaar area.

“If someone does not wear a face mask, we (volunteers) will ask the individual to wear a face mask first, then we will allow this person to enter.

“Unlike last year, when comes to the SOPs this time, there is more freedom at this year’s bazaar but we cannot be complacent and everyone must continue to abide by the SOPs to avoid being infected with Covid-19,” he told Bernama.

Another volunteer, Fakhrul Ihsan Syahrizal, 22, said apart from ensuring the wearing of face masks, he would also control and monitor the physical distancing among the visitors.

He said although there was no set limit on the number of visitors to enter the bazaar area, his tasks were aimed at avoiding extreme congestion in the area at any one time.

“Apart from the SOP compliance, we also need to monitor traffic and the number of visitors because if there are too many people or there are traffic obstacles, this can cause congestion and complicate the process for visitors to buy food at the bazaar.

“To ensure the situation is under control, we will monitor the visitor’s entry point to avoid traffic congestion or accidents,” he said, adding that he will be on duty throughout the month of Ramadan.

These two dedicated volunteers, who are representatives of the Federal Territory Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Association (PPPKMWP) Jalan Raja Bot branch, have been volunteering at the Ramadan bazaar for the past two years since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.
