SHAH ALAM, April 5 — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council has guaranteed that all of its MPs will give their full support to approve the Anti-Hopping Bill in the Dewan Rakyat.
In a statement today, the council said the main leaders of PH held a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob this morning to seek clarification on the status of the tabling of the Federal Constitution Amendment Bill (Anti-Hopping) scheduled for April 11, 2022.
“The Prime Minister has assured us there will be no changes to the notice of the Dewan Rakyat special session, per what has been distributed to the MPs.
“The council is also giving its full commitment that all PH MPs will give their support for the purpose of approving the Constitutional Amendment,” it said.
The statement was jointly signed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.
During the meeting with Ismail Sabri, Anwar also raised the issue of MySejahtera ownership which belongs to a foreign company.
“We demand a full explanation on this during the Dewan Rakyat sitting,” Anwar said.
In January, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the Anti-Hopping Bill will be finalised and tabled in the next Parliament session.
He said the decision was reached during the Steering Committee Meeting on Transformation and Political Stability between the government and PH which was held on January 19.
Prior to this, Wan Junaidi said the Bill would be brought to Parliament in July this year as the formulation of the law required a detailed study as well as a holistic engagement session.
