MBSA launches environmental sustainability programme

SHAH ALAM, April 1 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has launched the 2022 Environmental Sustainability programme to inculcate the practice of recycling in the community.

Its Corporate and Public Relations head Shahrin Ahmad said the campaign, held in collaboration with Fraser & Neave (F&N) Holdings Bhd and the Selangor State Education Department, starts today until October 31.

He said the planned activities include recycling competitions involving kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.

“There will also be a video competition for recycling and an upcycling mural contest for primary schools, as well as a special award by MBSA for schools that collected the most number of plastic, aluminium and tetra-pack materials.

"Similarly a recycling competition will be held at the Wisma MBSA building from April 1 to October 28. For the Residents' Representative Council (MPP) a contest from April 1 to October 31 on the collection of used cooking oil will also be held," Shahrin said in a statement.

He added that F&N has contributed RM22,700 in cash prizes for the lucky winners.

The winner of the recycling competition for the kindergarten level will receive RM500 in cash, followed by second place (RM400), third (RM300), while the fourth and fifth place will get RM100 each.

Meanwhile, for primary and secondary schools the first-place winner of the recycling competition will get RM2,000 in cash followed by the second (RM1,700), third (RM1,500), fourth (RM1,200) and fifth (RM1,000).

For the special awards’ prizes, the most efficient collector of aluminium and plastic will win RM200 in cash for the kindergarten level, while winners in the primary and secondary schools level will receive RM700 each.

The most efficient collector of tetra-pack materials for the kindergarten level will receive RM700 in cash, while winners for the primary and secondary schools level will get RM2,100 each.
