MBI channels aid to 17 blind flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — State-owned body Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI has provided additional financial aid to 17 disabled persons in Selangor who were affected by the recent floods.

Its chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek said the RM500 contribution to each recipient is an addition to the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) aid to lighten their burden.

She added the aid to qualified recipients was immediately disbursed after checks were conducted by the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB)

"This is part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in line with the slogan of driving life. We are aware the people who were affected by the disaster desperately need aid.

"So we spent RM8,500 to be provided to them with the hope this will instil the spirit into them to live," Norita said during the handover of the aid at the MAB's complex in Brickfields earlier today.

Also in attendance was MBI's CSR head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor and MAB chief executive officer George Thomas.

On his part, George acknowledged the fate of visually disabled individuals would at a loss without the support of agencies such as MBI, as 65 per cent of MAB's revenue entirely depends on public contributions.

"We are very fortunate as MBI has shown great care towards Selangor's citizens especially the visually disabled. The disbursement of aid would be very difficult without their support.

"A million thanks to MBI for being willing to help these 17 flood victims," he said, adding that MAB has recorded over 3,000 individuals registered with the association since its founding in 1951.
