SHAH ALAM, March 14 — The implementation of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the Mass Rapid Transit Line 3 (MRT3) projects in Selangor must not bring about negative effects or cause terrible disasters that the people will end up bearing.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, said the projects’ development should be done in an orderly manner, with the managing authority monitoring and controlling the situation.
“Reviews may be needed as soon as possible for the two projects, by taking into account the various factors at play, particularly the social impact and the environment, which must be preserved for the prosperity of future generations.
“Therefore, I remind all involved, be it the Federal government or the state government, to ensure all works carried out are done so in an orderly and refined manner,” said His Royal Highness.
Sultan Sharafuddin was speaking during the officiation of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 14th Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.
On December 2 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government agreed to the Federal government’s proposal regarding the ECRL’s northern line.
However, he added that the project would consider its impact on the environment, including the water catchment area near Batu Dam, and other social effects such as the location of traditional and Orang Asli villages.
The MRT3 project involves a 40 km line and circular flow which passes through areas including Jalan Duta, Setiawangsa, Pandan Indah, Salak Selatan, Bandar Malaysia and Kerinchi.
