SHAH ALAM, Feb 15 — The Selangor government has agreed to look into the need for its citizens to receive Covid-19 vaccine booster doses as one of the requirements to participate in state programmes.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this was decided in the Special Meeting of the State Security Working Committee on Pandemic Management yesterday.

He added the meeting also examined the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Ramadan bazaars and religious programmes at mosques.

"The meeting agreed that different strategies needed to be taken by local authorities and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to ensure that Ramadan bazaar, as well as ‘imarah’ programmes such as tarawih prayers and others, could be carried out with high SOP compliance by the people," he said.

During the meeting, Amirudin was also briefed on the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in Selangor which saw a surge in cases following the spread of the latest Omicron variant.

"Several measures were also discussed to control the spread of the virus, especially in educational institutions which have seen an increase in the number of cases," he said.

A total of 13,373,479 adult population in the country have received booster doses as of yesterday, while 206,748 children aged between five to 11 years have already received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
