SHAH ALAM, Feb 15 — The Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS) has been appointed as a strategic partner to distribute Selangor free subscriber identification module (SIM) cards to students in the state.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI Corporate Social Responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the association will distribute 3,000 SIM cards equipped with free internet to students from low-income families.

"Students outside of Selangor can also get the free internet subscription for a year if they are eligible," he said

In January, he said a total of 3,000 SIM cards would be distributed to students with priority given to students in Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (Kuis).

On August 4 last year, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari informed that a total of 70,000 people in the state will receive SIM cards equipped with free internet data for 12 months.

Apart from Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) students, the initiative also benefits Yayasan Selangor student loan borrowers, Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre students, traders, farmers and single mothers.
