SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — Selangor will not be closing down any sectors despite the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, instead, the state will focus on reminding its citizens to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the spread of the virus is still under control and the state has a high vaccination rate among its adult and adolescent population.
He explained that the current bed occupancy rate in hospitals is not as critical as in September and October last year and those who were infected with the virus must immediately undergo quarantine.
“The enforcement of the SOPs should be made a priority again. We do not want to shut down any sector unless the situation is severe.
“Previously the death rate was around 190 to 200 people daily, currently, it is around 9 people. What matters now is how to remind the people to continue observing the SOPs,” he said when met after handing over the convertible education loan offer letter at Dewan Jubli Perak in Shah Alam here today.
Meanwhile, Amirudin has expressed his worry over the virus’s outbreak involving those who use fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates.
“Following the issue, we have asked the Health Ministry to check whether they are also infected and the effects because individuals who completed the dose should receive a mild effect," he added.
The daily Covid-19 cases recorded today have reached 13,994 cases, a significant surge from last week, making it the highest figure for this year.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin previously had predicted that the daily cases would reach 15,000 cases due to the Omicron variant wave.
