SHAH ALAM, Feb 7 — Residents in flood-hit areas are reminded to not leave their bulk waste near the drainages for the second phase of the post-flood clean-up operation to run smoothly.
KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said this could prevent flash floods caused by clogged drainages during the rainy season.
He said several people were still dumping their garbage in areas where it shouldn’t be and had been urged to use the Roll-on-Roll-off (Roro) bins.
“We hope that people have stopped taking out flood waste because we are already in the second phase where we are focusing on clearing up the drains and ditches, which requires immediate attention.
“We are worried that the water levels would rise again when it rains if the cleaning up process is not yet complete,” he said when met in Taman Sri Muda here, yesterday.
The state-owned company has been in charge of the post-flood clean-up in stages since December 20 last year.
A total of 78,000 tonnes of waste was transported out of the affected areas in the first phase of the operation, fully completed on January 7.
The second phase had started on January 8, focusing on disinfecting flood-hit areas and clearing clogged drains using effective microorganism (EM) technology.
