MBPJ records strong financial performance last year

SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has recorded strong financial performance last year with a surplus of RM21.233 million.

Its mayor Mohamad Azham Md Arif said the achievement was based on the comparison with the deficit budget proposal of RM18.054 million after total revenue collection (RM355.941 million) minus total operating expenditure (RM268.073 million) and development expenditure (RM66.634 million).

“MBPJ’s financial position and performance remain strong and stable as well as resilience against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Based on the ongoing and continuous strategic effort that is being implemented, the positive trend is likely to continue until this year,” he said after chairing the MBPJ Full Board Meeting Vol. 1/2022 at MBPJ headquarters yesterday.

He said prudent spending control is projected to be continued in ensuring the good financial performance of the local council and able to embrace the projected budget deficit this year.

Mohamad Azhan added that MBPJ's overall revenue collection performance until December 31 last year was still stable despite recording RM355.941 million or 96.56 per cent compared to the revised revenue estimate of RM368.609 million.

“MBPJ will continue to increase our revenue collection by facilitating online payment as well as to set up mobile counters outside our headquarters.

“Apart from that, other methods which will be continued include to reduce outstanding payment by executing scheduled integrated operations as well as to continue issuing notices to alert the customer in collaboration with other departments,” he said.
