SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — The bioremediation pilot project for Sungai Gong has shown satisfactory results in producing cleaner water sources, says Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).

Air Selangor said the murky water source in Sungai Gong is now cleaner due to the reduction in accumulated sediment.

“The pilot project was implemented in an area managed by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) under the Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) initiative by the state government.

“The water supply index in this area has recorded a positive increase following the production of natural oxygenated water.

“To ensure that we can continue to preserve and conserve this raw water source, let us work together to take immediate action in the event of any pollution incidents in the future,” said the water operator on Facebook, today.

The scheme was mentioned during the tabling of the 2021 Selangor Budget in October 2020, whereby Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had outlined several measures to resolve water supply disruption issues including a pilot project using nanotechnology to treat water at Sungai Gong.

Following that, in December 2020, the Menteri Besar on Facebook said the state administration has come up with four steps under SJAM to ensure the people of Selangor would receive a continuous water supply.

The four steps outlined include early treatment of water treatment ponds; monitoring and surveillance; construction of direct pumping infrastructure from Sungai Selangor storage pond (end of 2022) and enforcement of the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) (Amendment) Enactment 2020.
