SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — The situation following the high-tide phenomenon which hit several areas in Selangor is under control and no damages were reported on residents’ houses as of today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said based on reports from routine monitoring done in Klang and Kuala Selangor, the water level has reached five metres high this morning.

“The monitoring was conducted at Pantai Remis, Pantai Jeram and the Kuala Selangor jetty between 6.50am until 8am and even though the water level rose, the situation has not jeopardised nearby residents.

“Meanwhile in Klang, monitoring was conducted at the Kampung Tok Muda and Jalan Kunci Air Kapar fisherman’s jetty between 6am to 7am and water level has reached five metres high. However, the water receded at 6.55am and does not affect residents’ houses,” he said in a statement, today.

On Sunday, Norazam informed the department has assigned six personnel to conduct routine monitoring at the risky areas throughout the high-tide phenomenon.

This followed an announcement by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) that several areas in Kedah (Kuala Muda), Perak (Bagan Datoh), Selangor (Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor) and Johor (Batu Pahat and Pontian) will be hit by the phenomenon beginning January 2 (Sunday) until January 5 (tomorrow).
