SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — More than 20,000 tonnes of post-flood waste have been collected in Selangor to date.

Out of the total, 13,000 tonnes of rubbish were collected from areas under the purview of the Shah Alam City Council.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari deemed the solid waste collection conducted by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to be satisfactory as it has helped in expediting the post-flood cleaning process.

“Previously, 13,000 tonnes of waste were collected, but the number has exceeded over 20,000 tonnes now… so far, we have utilised RM6 million out of RM10 million allocated for this purpose,” he said after receiving corporate donations for the Ikhtiar Selangor Bangkit fund at the Annex Building here, today.

Amirudin said that the trash collected would continue to rise, with more than 3,700 tonnes of post-flood waste managed yesterday, the highest recorded figure.

He added the daily figure could reach over 4,000 tonnes.

As of yesterday, the cleanup works, which began on December 25, is 40 per cent complete and is expected to resolve within a week.

The torrential rain from December 17 until 19 had resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres and caused severe flooding in several locations in Selangor.
