SHAH ALAM, Dec 27 — Approximately RM369,501,257 will be necessary to repair state infrastructure damaged by the recent floods.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said their early analysis of the infrastructures needing repair could be categorised into emergency, urgent and normal periods.
“Emergency repair works require RM142,380,281, while urgent works amount to RM177,909,255, and normal period works total up to RM49,211,721.
“The total cost is RM369,501,257 and will be partially funded by the state government, while the rest will be requested from the Federal government so the repairs can begin immediately,” he said during a hybrid press conference of the flood situation in Selangor that was streamed live on Facebook and Youtube.
Amirudin said the infrastructure involves those from Federal and state government agencies, including the Irrigation and Drainage Department, Public Works Department, District and Land Office, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), and Selangor Water Management Board (Luas).
The extraordinary rain from December 17 to 19 was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
All state government assets and Federal agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, and the army, were mobilised to evacuate victims to safe locations and disburse necessary goods.
