Inundated vehicles complicates search and rescue operations — PGA

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — A huge number of vehicles submerged under flood water in Taman Sri Muda have made it difficult and challenging for the rescue team to carry on the operation, especially at night.

The General Operations Force (PGA) North Brigade 3rd Battalion’s Commanding Officer Superintendent Azhar Hashim said they had to ensure these vehicles did not cause their boats’ engines to become stuck.

“Usually many vehicles end up submerged when hit by floods. Therefore, we need to ensure there are no inundated vehicles along the route, so the rescue process heading towards victims’ houses can be carried out smoothly.

“If a boat’s engine was stuck on the vehicles, it makes the operation process more difficult as well as posing a danger to rescuers,” he said to SelangorKini

However, despite facing several challenges due to the inundated vehicles, Azhar said PGA has managed to evacuate 349 victims from the area, as of yesterday.

He added that other than assisting with the rescue operation, PGA has also been helping to distribute food to victims.

“We are always on standby to help the victims who are affected by the flooding disaster, even if it happened in other states. PGA will mobilise our personnel and assets accordingly,” he said.

The North Brigade comprising of140 PGA personnels came all the way from Ulu Kinta in Kulim and Bidor in Perak to help in the Selangor flooding assistance mission.
