Water pollution resolved, only minimal disruption to supply — MB

SHAH ALAM, Dec 16 — The Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has resumed operations, as of 12.30 noon today.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the move was taken after the zero TON (threshold odour number) level readings were recorded three consecutive times, at the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

“Latest: Three readings registered 0 TON at Semenyih WTP. Thus WTP resumed operations at 12.30 noon. Minimal disruption, with recovery in stages.

“Thank you to @luas_selangor and @air_selangor for swift action in overcoming this issue. Less than 4 hours taken to complete,” said Amirudin on his Twitter today.

Earlier today, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) announced the forced shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih WTP, which resulted in unscheduled water supply disruptions for 463 areas in five regions.

These regions include Sepang (194), Petaling (172), Hulu Langat (54), Putrajaya (23), and Kuala Langat (20).

The WTP had to temporarily cease its operations after diesel odour pollution was detected in Sungai Semenyih.
