SHAH ALAM, Dec 16 — The forced shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has resulted in unscheduled water supply disruptions for 463 areas in five regions, said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).
These regions include Sepang (194), Petaling (172), Hulu Langat (54), Putrajaya (23), and Kuala Langat (20).
The WTP had to temporarily cease its operations, after diesel odour pollution was detected in Sungai Semenyih.
“Air Selangor is working closely with Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (Luas) to identify the cause of raw water pollution along Sungai Semenyih, and several streams around the river.
“We have also activated the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to provide alternative water supply to the consumers in affected areas.
“A total of 81 water tankers will be mobilised to the affected areas and critical premises. Air Selangor is aware of consumer’s need to get clean water, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are doing our best to minimise the impact of the disruption on affected consumers,” said the company in a statement today.
