SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — The state government has approved a proposal from a private company to develop Taman Alam in Kuala Selangor as an international tourist destination, with an estimated investment of RM100 million.

State executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said the proposal has been approved by the State Executive Council.

“Hopefully in three years time, there will be a famous tourism destination in Kuala Selangor which will attract not only local tourists but also international visitors.

“Apart from Kuala Selangor, various private companies have also expressed interest in developing other areas including Pulau Ketam and Sungai Congkak.

“They want to invest in and transform the areas, making it more appealing and attractive,” he said in response to a query from Sungai Burong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias on tourism attraction in the state, during the sitting of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.

Meanwhile, responding to an additional question from Mohd Shamsudin on an assistance programme to homestay operators, Hee said the state administration is forming a committee to help operators obtain planning approval.

“Currently, many homestays are located by the river and operate without permits. The operators are running unrecognised businesses.

“However, the Tourism Selangor office along with the Land Office and local authorities will work together and discuss with all parties on how to resolve the issue. We will help the operators survive and promote their homestays,” he said.
