Exco: State health insurance scheme expanded, improved upon

SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — The new improvements to the Peduli Sihat Insurance Scheme (SIPS) include a change to the terms and conditions by assessing current needs, and applicants not having to be tied to a specific income line, among others.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the programme, now named ‘Iltizam Selangor Sihat’ as announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in the 2022 Selangor Budget, has also increased its quota from 85,000 to 90,000 applicants.

She said state assemblymen have been granted autonomous power to evaluate and approve any applications for benefits.

"Existing insurance benefits have also been maintained, but payments will be made based on claim methods, and the list of beneficiaries expanded to protect the family members of the scheme's participants, which will be detailed later.

"Additionally, benefits from accidents, death, and critical illnesses will be maintained, although its rate will be announced late," Dr Siti Mariah said during the sitting of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.

She was responding to a query by Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu, concerning the improvements to SIPS.

Speaking of the remaining funds in Peduli Sihat's funds, which were allegedly frozen last year, Dr Siti Mariah said SIPS' allocation has not been frozen.

She added RM21.4 million out of the RM39.5 million allocation, or 54.2 per cent, has been used as of October 31 this year.
