SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — Disseminating information on state government policies and initiatives should be done in simple language so that all levels of society can understand them, said state executive councillor for unity Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

She said this is crucial, as Selangorians consist of various races and religions.

“Maintaining harmony and living together in a multi-religious society is a big challenge for Malaysia, especially in Selangor.

"As the state that leads in economic and political development, the Selangor government is responsible for maintaining unity and through this way be able to face the competition of the digital age and attract foreign investment," she said at the Selangor State Interfaith Dialogue Convention 2021.

The virtual programme was officiated by Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim.

Dr Siti Mariah said to achieve this, the state government has carried out various comprehensive and proactive efforts, including cooperation between government agencies, academic institutions, communities, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

These programmes include workshops organized with the Community Communication Centre (Komas),  unity conference with the Selangor’s Department of Unity and National Integration, webinars with Institut Darul Ehsan, as well as a series of dialogues with the community at houses of worship.

"I believe that efforts towards strengthening harmony and promoting unity must be implemented collectively and inclusively so that it can be understood and appreciated by all levels of society," she said.
