SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — A total of 273 food premises in Selangor have obtained the Clean, Safe and Healthy (BeSS) certificate from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
Selangor State Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said these include restaurants, cafeterias, food courts, school canteens, hospital canteens, and food trucks.
“Congratulations to all the premises for being committed to maintaining the quality of food hygiene and safety by displaying food calorie tags, and successfully obtaining a score exceeding 86 per cent.
"Hopefully this effort will be maintained to become a trend for other food premises operators in the state to improve their hygiene level," he told SelangorKini.
According to Dr Sha’ari, the recognition by BeSS can help reduce the risk of food contamination and provide detailed information to customers regarding healthy eating.
Dr Sha’ari also shared the criteria for applying for a BeSS certificate, namely that entrepreneurs must be registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia or related agencies, registered with the MOH through the Food Premises Registration, and premises must obtain a license from the local authority.
Among the food premises not eligible to apply for BeSS are those selling only one type of food which are high in calories, sugar, salt or fat; operates seasonally such as the Ramadan bazaar, as well as only selling alcoholic beverages.
