SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — The state government has spent RM16.5 million since 2008 to help 4,811 participants of the Poverty Eradication Blueprint increase their business productivity.

The assistance provides free business equipment not exceeding RM5,000 to the recipients, said Morib state assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin.

He said the equipment provided are sewing machines, refrigerators, ovens, mobile stoves, bicycle repair tools and giant-sized fruit grinders.

Also provided are laptops, special onion peelers and cutters, table sets, chairs and hawker umbrellas.

“Through this programme, the state government buys the equipment needed by traders who have been screened and found to be qualified, to further improve their business performance,” he said on Facebook.

The Selangor Poverty Eradication Blueprint Programme targets the poor and low-income groups (B40) who have the skills to do business.

Among the enterprises that can be ventured into are sewing, retail, food and beverage, babysitting and handicrafts.
