KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — The Selangor International Business Summit 2021 (SIBS 2021) has recorded encouraging participation from traders, with over 400 attendees registered on the first day of the event despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

State executive councillor for trade and investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said he was impressed by the turnout even though a figure was not set on the expected number of participants and visitors.

“To be honest, it has been very unpredictable as we only finalised the event within the last two months. We took risks to ensure this event can be held as scheduled and are proud to create history by having SIBS 2021 run hybrid, both physically and online.

“If the Covid-19 pandemic is not a factor, I am certain more overseas participants would have joined the event. Many of them had to cancel their plans here because of the border closure,” he said when met after the opening ceremony of SIBS 2021 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here today.

The event was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, who represented Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

Teng added that SIBS 2021 is a crucial platform for local small and medium enterprises (SME) to penetrate Asean market.

“From day one of the summit, SIBS had always been the platform to explore the market in other neighbouring Asean countries.

“Hence, I would like to urge SMEs to take advantage of this opportunity. This is the time for them to introduce their products to foreign importers and generate more sales post-pandemic,” he said.
