SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — Two new initiatives under the Smart Selangor programme will be introduced to the public next year, says Dr Fahmi Ngah.

The Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) managing director said this includes the e-coupon parking system, which will begin on January 1, 2022, and the recycling for money programme.

“The state government will do away with the use of paper parking coupons and coin machines for payment for street parking.

“The public would instead pay (for parking) using the SSP (Smart Selangor Parking) app or the e-coupon that will soon be introduced,” Dr Fahmi told Utusan Malaysia in an interview yesterday, adding that a training programme is being conducted for selected e-coupon agents under each local council.

Dr Fahmi said the effort is in line with implementing a fully cashless parking system in Selangor.

As for the recycling for money programme, Dr Fahmi said the initiative offers consumers to make money from recycling selected items to local recycling operators via an app.

“This will implement the ‘waste is wealth’ concept and increase recycling awareness in the state to the 30 per cent target by 2025,” he told the Malay daily.

Meanwhile, Dr Fahmi said the state is also looking into the use of electric motorcycles, or e-bike, which the public could rent.

He said the programme will be introduced in stages, first in Shah Alam and Cyberjaya, and aims to provide 200,000 e-bikes by 2025.

“The move is in line with the state government’s vision to become a low carbon city by encouraging the use of electric vehicles,” he added.
