SHAH ALAM, Nov 11 — The state government is expected to focus on the public health sector in the 2022 Selangor Budget, said state executive councillor for health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

She said this would come in the form of additional allocations, so as to ensure the success of several new initiatives.

These include the Selangor Mental Sihat (SEHAT) programme, which will have funds allocated so that its participants can see counsellors, as well as a digitalisation of the state government's health programme.

"We also want to increase the community's role in non-communicable diseases prevention, such as heart disease, diabetes, high-blood pressure, and kidney disease.

"Looking at the Covid-19 pandemic, many of its victims are in the co-morbid category. We want to raise early awareness on the importance of looking after one's health, and it is the responsibility of society itself," Dr Siti said.

During a briefing session on October 8, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said all assemblymen and community leaders in the state will be involved in the preparation of the state budget.

The 2022 Selangor Budget will also involve Opposition and independent assemblymen in the discussions, aimed at being more constructive for the benefit of the people.

The budget's tabling will be carried out on November 26, to be debated for a week, before being approved in December.
