SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — The residential parking of at least 10 homes along Jalan Sekolah in Port Klang were submerged in water yesterday evening, due to the ongoing high-tide phenomenon caused by the Northeast monsoon.
Pandamaran assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee said the flooding also reached the kitchen areas of affected residents, up to the ankles, but the situation remains under control.
"I understand Port Klang's sea water level reached 5.5 metres, as of 6am today. Indeed, Jalan Banting Pandamaran is now fully covered by sea water.
"So I call upon residents to move their vehicles and furniture to higher places, as the sea water is expected to reach the same levels tomorrow," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile Leong also urged the Klang Municipal Council and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) to expedite the upgrading works of existing divider walls in the Pandamaran area.
"I noticed the sea water spilling over due to the divider walls not being high enough. JPS has just been informed of this, and they need to immediately rectify it.
"Hopefully all residents nearby can sleep peacefully in the future, once the divider wall has been upgraded," he said.
The Meteorological Department has projected a four-day period for the high-tide phenomenon to affect the state, starting yesterday in Klang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Selangor
Aside from Selangor, the phenomenon is also expected to affect Kedah, Perak, and Johor during the same period, with a possibility of worsening if accompanied by strong winds, large waves, and heavy rains simultaneously.
