SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — An additional 2,500 SIM cards will be distributed for free to students under the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) according to the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI).

Its Corporate Social Responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the initiative, under the Selangor Internet Data, will be handed out this month as soon as the data compilation process has been completed.

“Previously, some 7,000 PTRS students benefited from the programme, and we have completed the free SIM cards distribution to them,” he said when met after handing over tablets and free SIM cards to five orphaned siblings whose parents succumbed to Covid-19 at Kampung Melayu Subang Tambahan yesterday.

He added that MBI has also distributed 5,000 free SIM cards to each constituency in Selangor, to be given to eligible residents.

Apart from that, Ahmad said MBI has donated laptops and tablets for the use of students from low-income families.

“MBI hopes the state assemblymen can pass the donation to the targeted groups, in case they are unable to come to their respective community service centres,” he said.

On August 4, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that 70,000 people in Selangor will receive the SIM card with free internet data for a period of 12 month.

Other than PTRS students, the Menteri Besar said students from Kolej Universiti Islam Selangor and Universiti Selangor as well as Yayasan Selangor’s borrowers will also be part of the targeted group under the initiative.

The initiative also includes students from the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre, online traders, farmers and single mothers
