MBSA wins award for eco-sustainable city by regional body

SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has been awarded the environmentally-sustainable city prize by the Asean Working Group for Environmentally Sustainable Cities (AWGESC) Indonesia.

Its corporate and public relations head Shahrin Ahmad said the recognition by the The 5th Asean Environmentally Sustainable Cities was received by MBSA virtually on October 21.

"Several cities in Malaysia were also shortlisted as candidates, including MBSA which has been certified as having clean air, water, and land.

"The award is also a gesture of appreciation in making Asean cities as sustainable cities, while at the same time sharing the best local practices in ensuring a clean, green, and liveable city," he said in a statement yesterday.

Shahrin added that MBSA's candidacy process was done in cooperation with the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) as well as the Environment and Water Ministry.

The criteria for nominating cities in Malaysia involves indications used through the Local Authority Grading System, and the Malaysian Urban Rural National Indicators Network for Sustainable Development (MURNInets 2.0) under KPKT and PLANMalaysia.
