SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — The aerospace industry is projected to skyrocket in Selangor by the end of the decade, said state exco for investment, trade and industry Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

He explained that at present, 63 per cent of the national aerospace industry is operating out of Selangor, and is confident this number will rise.

"We are targeting the state as the focal point for investors by 2030, and the Aerospace Action Plan handled by Pejabat Koordinasi Industri Angkasa Selangor Darul Ehsan (S-DAICO) will ensure this endeavour succeeds.

"In fact, we are confident the organising of the Selangor Aviation Show 2021 in November will open up opportunities to industry players in cooperating with one another in various fields," Teng said to SelangorKini during an interview at his office yesterday.

The inaugural exhibition, taking place from November 25 to 27 at Skypark Subang, is targeting at least 30 participants and 5,000 visitors.

On May 18 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the main scope of the aerospace industry is maintenance, repairs, manufacturing, integration systems, engineering, design, and training.

By 2030, aerospace manufacturing activity in Malaysia is estimated to generate RM21.2 billion in revenue, while repairs and maintenance is expected to bring in RM20.4 billion, and engineering and design to bring in RM13.6 billion.

The industry's main players including Airbus Helicopters, Execujet Malaysia, Sapura Aero, and Weststar, will use the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport as their main operations hub.
