SELAYANG, Oct 14 — More than 1,000 individuals have enrolled in the Selangor Health Community Volunteers (Suka) programme, to help the state government carry out public health activities, especially those related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Selangor Menteri Besar said the volunteers hail from the state’s 56 constituencies, are over 18, and in good health.
According to Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the group was trained and enrolled in courses related to the appropriate modules online, since they do not possess medical knowledge.
“(Later) We will also conduct face-to-face learning to provide them with more knowledge. This will make it easier for them to assist the community.
“RM1.2 million has been allocated to the programme, and each state constituency receives RM18,000 to run beneficial activities. We want to be a developed and healthy state,” he said after launching the programme earlier today.
Amirudin said since its introduction in August, Suka had been involved in several activities, including providing vehicles to ferry Covid-19 patients, undertaking the disinfection process, checking on quarantined individuals, and working at vaccination centres.
“Suka will also organise local programmes that can form a healthy community in terms of physical and mental.
"As an entity that is close to the community, Suka is also responsible as a special ambassador to promote the Selangor government's programmes and initiatives," he said.
Selangor has launched several programmes to safeguard the health of the population, especially during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Among them is the establishment of the Special Task Force for Covid-19, the community screening and Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) and the provision of free Covid-19 self-test kits.
