SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — Water supply to 463 areas that was affected following the temporary shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) due to pollution, was recovered 18 hours earlier than scheduled, says Selangor Menteri Besar.

“Alhamdulillah, I was informed that the water supply recovery percentage on the unscheduled disruptions caused by pollution has reached 100 per cent.

"The water supply has been fully recovered 18 hours ahead of target," said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on Facebook today.

Earlier, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) had announced that water supply in five affected regions in Kuala Langat, Sepang, Putrajaya, Hulu Langat and Petaling was fully restored at noon today.

On Friday, a total of 463 areas in the five Air Selangor regions experienced unscheduled water disruptions due to odour pollution in Sungai Semenyih.

However, the immediate action of the state agencies managed to resolve the incident in less than 12 hours, including placing 14 bags of activated carbon powder to control pollution.

Earlier today, Bernama reported that a food factory in Beranang, Selangor was issued with a two-week stop-work order from yesterday as the plant is believed to be the cause of the odour pollution in Sungai Semenyih

The Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) has opened an investigation paper to charge the factory owner on suspicion of having been responsible for the shutdown of the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on August 31 and later on September 3.
