Grants application for tourism industry start today

SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — The tourism industry in Selangor can apply for financial assistance to revive the industry beginning today until December 31, says Tourism Selangor.

Its general manager Azrul Shah Mohamad said the initiative’s programmes include  Familiarisation Trip, tourism exhibitions, sales missions, and Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition (MICE) events.

“The initiative is carried out as part of our effort to promote and boost tourism in Selangor, since we are now moving towards the Covid-19 endemic phase,” he said in a statement.

Azrul added the grant will be channelled through the reimbursable financial assistance method. The number of applications is based on one entry or implementation, which is 50 per cent of the total actual expenditure or according to the maximum eligibility of RM20,000 — whichever is lower.

“Applicants who have been granted approval must complete their programmes from October 1 until June 30 next year.

“The initiative will attract the interest of the tourism agency and association, homestay operators, community associations, as well as the Village Community Management Council (MPKK),” he said.

Those interested can check the eligibility requirements at http: //www.selangor travel or e-mail geranbantuankitaselangor@tourismselangor.org.

On June 9, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an allocation of RM2.55 million to help the tourism industry during this period.

According to Amirudin, the fund involves the provision of financial assistance grants, Selangor Tourism 2.0 vouchers, the tourism digitalisation learning and training programme, as well as one-off cash aid incentives to tourism associations in the state.
