PETALING JAYA, Sept 17 — More than 250,000 families in Selangor affected by the Covid-19 pandemic have received food basket aids from the state, says Menteri Besar.
Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance was part of the state’s efforts to reduce the peoples’ burden, as they not only face a health crisis but also an economic one.
“People are desperately looking for support which is why every single day the Selangor government implements various initiatives and stimulus packages that help the affected community in continuing their survival.
“One of the initiatives is the distribution of basic food items to more than 250,000 families in Selangor,” he said while giving a speech at the flag-off ceremony for the ‘Jelajah Peduli Nadi Rakyat’ convoy at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) headquarters here today.
Amirudin said Selangor also donated basic food items to affected groups in other states, such as through the Jelajah Peduli Nadi Rakyat programme.
“During this difficult time, we continue to work positively to ensure that we can reach the people and we do not limit ourselves to helping Selangor but also other states.
“In these difficult times we must come together and start caring for one another in hopes of a better future,” he said.
On June 9, Amirudin announced that each state constituency would receive an additional RM50,000 allocation through the Food Basket Programme under the Kita Selangor Package 2.0.
Pakatan Harapan members of parliament (MPs) also received an additional allocation of RM30,000 to implement various welfare programmes for the people.
The allocation of RM551.56 million under the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 covers three strategies and 25 programmes that will benefit at least 1.6 million people.
